Following an episode of stress, severe anxiety and panic attacks in the corporate world, a narrative that is sadly too common in the West, I took steps to address my lifestyle to prevent this from happening again. From the food I ate, to getting better sleep, meditating and most importantly, learning about myself. I did a deep dive into everything and it has been truly transformative.
My purpose is to share the science and wisdom of wellbeing in a business setting to ensure employees have the education, inspiration and importantly a toolkit to create healthier, happier and more meaningful lives. I believe it is in a business’s best interests to facilitate this. Not only it is just the right thing to do, but it is now proven beyond doubt that an effective and bespoke wellbeing strategy in the workplace will significantly contribute to a thriving business performance.
My background at Bupa Wellness as a Health Coach in Canary Wharf and Harley Street gave me first-hand clinical experience of the declining health of employees in the City and ultra-high net worth individuals. I consistently took readings for high body fat, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity. Employees had stressful jobs and lives, they were exhausted and were more often than not on medication for some lifestyle related disease, it wasn’t good. It was striking how unhappy people were too.
I also spent 5 years as a Director at a global marketing recruitment agency. It was very interesting to see the shift in the reasons why people leave their jobs and the drivers that attract them to new jobs and companies. No longer is salary and job role the top pre-requisites, candidates increasingly ask about the culture. They want to know things like what career progression looks like, what the working from home policy is and if there is flexible workspace in the office.
I could also see the War on Talent growing. Businesses are struggling to retain talent and acquire top talent, which is why Employer Branding and Employee Value Proposition has never been more important and a major enabler of this is a company’s Wellbeing and Happiness strategy.
I could not believe in the importance of Employee Wellbeing any more than I do. This is why I have become a transformational coach, qualified as a WELL Building Standard Accredited Professional and trained as a Mental Health First Aider, all to compliment my degree and professional experience.
I have seen time and again how a healthy and engaged employee flourishes at work. It is brilliant for the individual, the business and our national health service. I hope that by creating Rise Well and acting as a Consultant, I can reach more companies and therefore more employees to make a bigger impact.
